FAQ

  • Q1: Does the X705 UPS support to use with X825?
  • Answer: Yes, the X705 support to use with X825 board, but the power supply must be connected to X705, also the X825 "AUTO-ON" PIN must be shorted. Also you need to prepare extra spacers to install the kit.
  • Q2: Does the X725/X750/X705 support power failure detection?
  • A: No, the X725/X750/X705 dose not support power failure detection.

Which side of the XH2.54 connector is positive and which side is negative? On the pins in the image, the left one is negative and the right one is positive. On the pin I received, the left is positive and the right is negative.

Please let me know which is positive and which is negative with a picture so I don't start a fire.

I was excited to get my new x705 but quickly became disappointed when I learned that in order to power my Raspberry pi 4b I would have to use some pins of the 40 pins. This essentially renders the rest of the header useless to me because I need the entire 40 pins for my small touch screen. What is my work around here? I thought I might use one of the 5v outlets and graft it to a USB-C end. It says I should not use the USB port. Why!

Hi,If you want to expand the screen, please refer the X706 (simple UPS HAT) with the 40-pin header; You must provide power through the ups hat instead of the Raspberry Pi.

Hi sir,

Please use the X708 with the X829, the X708 board has UPS and power management function.

But x708 cannot be used with ice tower cooler because it stacks just on top of pi. Moreover, x705 has benefit than x708 that it has more xh2.54 output pin.

The X708 is UPS board with cooling fan, so there is no need to use an ice tower fan. and the X705 has no fan and no cooling capability.

I have got 2 pieces X705 and I am having the same issue with both of them:

1. Start-status: - X705 is correctly connected to my PI3 B+ - External power supply is connected to X705 over Micro USB power input, X705's power LED is ON. - 2 18650 batteries are in X705, X705 is charging them - 1 battery indicator LED is permanently ON, the second one is flashing, the others are OFF. - My PI3 B+ is working normal, after having the external power supply off and on X705 is doing its job, i.e. my PI is working I continuously for hours.

2. Status hours (a day) after: - Status almost the same like above, but Batteries are full, X705's power LED is OFF - 3 battery indicator LEDs are permanently ON, the last one is flashing - My PI3 B+ is working normal and X705 is doing its job like above.

3. Status further hours (between 1.5 and 2 days) after: - My PI is getting NO power any more from X705 and therefore it is dead (off)! - ALL battery indicator LEDs are permanently ON (none is flashing)., although their voltage is very low: 2.95V! - Although external power supply has been continuously ON and connected to X705, X705's power LED is OFF! - This states does NEVER change by its own, X705 is no charging the batteries, my PI is dead! - After having switched X705's power button (blue one) all begins form "Start-status" - see point 1. above.

X705 developers, please provide me with a solution for this issue. Thank you in advance.

My 705 hat worked fine for 2 weeks, but after that sometimes (when load connected) it start a loop and reports suddenly battery <25%: switches off, start, switch off, start.. at 10-60sec intervals. If i set the autostart mode to off, it just turn off, and when i press the button it starts and power down after 10-60 seconds. If i detach all loads, it stays on, and slowly get charged. Then it works again. tried different loads (usb cam, raspberry, phone), 3 different batteries, 2 different power adapters 3-4A. What could be the problem?

Hi, i see in the instructions that is raccomanded NOT to use the USB power output of this HAT to power the raspberry. Why? It does provide 2.5A, that should be enough..

Hello, which shape of 18650 battery is needed? i understand it should be WITHOUT BUILT-IN PROTECTION CIRCUIT, but i see there are 18650 batteries that are flat or with buttons or flaps on the edge. Which one is good? Thanks

Hi! Is it possible to power the RPi via the USB-A outlet of the board, as I need to install it away from the Pi and also can not mount the connector on the 40 pin header because of lack of space?

Thx!

Hi,X705 microUSB [USB-A] is power in; NOT power out. You can use a longer power cord to connect the X735 to the Raspberry Pi

Is this device suitable for permanent connection to a 5V DC charging/power source to enable fail over to battery when the 5V source gets disconnected i.e. will it act a UPS when the main supply is disconnected. Does it have 'power path' management so that the Raspberry Pi only uses the main 5V supply and not the battery when the supply is connected?

Anonymous user #5

Hi, The X750 has power-patch management to avoid battery frequent charging & discharging, and PI will be powered by power adapter once power adapter is connected. so the X750 is suitable for permanent connection.

FYI, we will have a new model which called X728 has the same advanced power-patch management but also adds power loss detection, improved auto powering on, safe shutndown when battery low, RTC..etc.

According to what is written on the pcb I think that in the picture you switch the "xh2.54 pwr in 3A" with the last "xh2.54 dc 5v output". Can you please specify it?

thanks

Can a lower charge density lithium ion polymer battery be used instead of the 18650, such as ADAFRUIT INDUSTRIES 1578 Lithium Ion Polymer Battery - 3.7v 500mAh? I just need to shut down pi, so small capacity is OK.
